Using YouTube Videos to Learn

One of the nice things about the rise in popularity of video sites like YouTube are the amount of instructional videos on all sorts of topics. Many days while processing eBay orders I’ll type in a topic such as “search engine optimization” (SEO) on YouTube, select a video and listen while I work.

I try and stick with people whose SEO reputations are established such as Aaron Wall from SEOBook but there are a ton of people to choose from and try out. It’s a piece of cake to do and a great way to take advantage of my time. There are some great Build a Niche Store videos produced by Mark over at The Niche Store Builder. And of coarse I have all sorts of audio and videos to choose from on Yaro Starak’s Blog Mastermind site now that I am a member.

Just Write

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

There is a scene in the fine movie Finding Forrester where writing legend William Forrester sits down with his new found prodigy Rob Brown, in front of an old cast iron manual typewriter, and says to him simply; “just write”.

Rob looks back at William with a quizzical look, as if to say, “about what?” as William responds, “it doesn’t matter, just write.” Rob turns his attention back to the black typewriter and timidly strikes at a single key with his index finger.

RSS Feeds do Work

I’m not from Missouri but I am a “show me” kind-a-guy, so when I read on an SEO blog that putting an RSS Feed on your web site would draw organic search results I thought to myself,

“uh huh, OK, yea sure… Mr. I need to put some content on my SEO blog today or I’ll miss my goal of 30 straight blog posts in a row”.

But I’ll try anything once, so after 75 zillion hours of trying to figure how to install that “waskly wabbit” of an RSS Feed on one of my websites, I was sure my efforts were nothing more than another exercise in “minimalist productivity” I’ve grown to master while “edja-ma-ca-ting” myself on Search Engine Optimization. A real challenge let me tell ya!
