The Power of Blog Commenting
Up until the last couple of weeks I have not left more than a handful of comments on blogs in all my years browsing the web. Call me anti-social but I wasn’t interested in striking up conversations with people I didn’t know. Recently though I have changed that attitude and am finding that posting comments is a good thing for all parties concerned.
First off, its feels good letting fellow-bloggers know I appreciate their work. Many of these denizens of the dark, stay up until the wee hours of the morning hammering away on their keyboards. It’s not like most bloggers become millionaires writing blog posts. Bloggers write to express their ideas to whomever will read them and to further their dream of creating a purposeful life. I’m sure some bloggers do very well financially, but most are community-focused people who enjoy helping others by posting articles designed to educated readers in a particular niche.
Take for instance Rochelle’s Index of Listings page on her NicheStoreStrategies blog. There has to be over 50 detailed BANS “How To” articles instructing Build a Niche Store users. There is real value to the blog reader on this page! The content is a treasure-trove of practical, well prepared and detailed step-by-step instructions with images. Any BANS owner will benefit from bookmarking or linking to this page for future BANS reference.
Blog commenting creates “social proof” for new readers scanning a blog for the first time. If a scanner sees a blog post generating 50 comments, the scanner is more willing to accept the credibility of the blogger and the particular post, whether it deserves it or not.
I am constantly amazed how a comment thread will “take-off” and create a “mastermind” effect of ideas that is greater than the original article. Commentators feed off each others comments and build a permanent wiki of niche information future readers can tap into.
In all honesty I’m doing more blog commenting to attract visitors to Affiliate Ground Zero. As I drop comments on related blogs I’d like to do more than say, “great article”. Although I think that’s OK sometimes. I’d like to review the piece I’ve read and add the thoughts and ideas the article generated for me.
Effective blog commenting is a form of content publishing. Like all forms of content commenting can be improved upon and I will be giving it more attention with each comment I post.
